Ellesmere Port
Ellesmere Port is a large coastal town located in Cheshire. Twinned with Reutlingen in Germany, it has a population of about 64,500. Situated on the banks of the River Mersey, it made its name as a busy dock in the 19th century.
Originally known as Netherpool, the name was changed to Ellesmere Port in the 19th century upon expansion and the creation of docks. The Manchester Ship Canal aided the town greatly, and it was able to benefit from the location of other industries.
